15. What do you think are the responsibilities of science and technology in society. In your own opinion, does public trust in science and technology matter during times of pandemic? Why?

Answer:

Science and technology have been utilized by people since the beginning of civilizations. Humans have benefitted from it for a lot of ways. Everything that we use in our everyday lives now, from our TV's, automobiles, radios, mobile phones, and computers are all products of science and technology. Even the chair, the paper and the pen that we use are products of science and technology. As much as humans being responsible for the creation of these things, science and technology have been responsible for the constant changes in our daily lives. It is responsible for making our lives easier, for curing diseases, for taking humans over the moon.

In my opinion, the public do trusts science and technology during this time as much as it unconsciously trusts it since the beginning of civilizations. In what ways? A lot of ways unimaginable. Science and technology have provided us with a protection, if not a cure to the ongoing pandemic that the world is going through. And, obviously, it saved a lot of lives otherwise have been gone.

16. explain the line "our heritage of greatness, for the national heritage is - lets face it - a heritage of smalness.

Answer:

The line "our heritage of greatness, for the national heritage is - let's face it - a heritage of smallness" suggests that the speaker believes that the common understanding of national heritage is limited and does not adequately capture the greatness of the country or its people. Instead, the speaker believes that true greatness lies in something beyond what is traditionally associated with national heritage.

By using the phrase "heritage of smallness," the speaker implies that the traditional understanding of national heritage is focused on minor accomplishments or details that are not truly indicative of the country's true potential or achievements. The phrase "let's face it" is used to acknowledge that this idea may be controversial or uncomfortable, but the speaker believes it is important to recognize in order to move towards a more accurate understanding of the country's history and potential.

Overall, the line suggests that the speaker believes that there is more to be celebrated and recognized about the country than what is commonly acknowledged through its national heritage.
